Central to the festival is the Ajyal Film Programme, which showcases a thoughtfully curated selection of films from across the globe. Screenings will take place at Katara Cultural Village and other key venues across Doha, immersing viewers in stories that delve into themes of identity, resilience, and the shared human experience. Through film, Ajyal amplifies underrepresented voices and fosters cultural understanding, sparking meaningful conversations that extend beyond the screen.
In a timely tribute, this year's Voices from Palestine short film series sheds light on the challenges faced by the Palestinian people. Through powerful storytelling, Palestinian filmmakers convey their experiences of survival, resistance, and resilience, offering deeply moving insights into life under occupation. This programme not only highlights ongoing struggles but also celebrates the enduring spirit of Palestinian communities.
Another notable event is Intaj's 'From Ground Zero' Experience series, a selection of short films from Gaza crafted under the guidance of renowned Palestinian director Rashid Masharawi. Spanning fiction, documentary, and experimental genres, these works share deeply personal stories of hope and perseverance amidst conflict, capturing the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
Ajyal 2024 also proudly presents the Made in Morocco programme, featuring short films that explore tradition, identity, and social change. These films provide an authentic view of Moroccan life, reflecting the richness and complexity of its evolving cultural landscape.
Returning this year is the audience favourite Made in Qatar, showcasing exceptional local talent. With films from emerging and established Qatari directors, this programme highlights the creativity and diversity of Qatar's cinematic landscape and offers a vital platform for the nation's creative community.
