Synopsis

‘Hekayat Khaleejiya’ is a DFI screening series dedicated to showcasing cinematic voices from the Gulf region. Taking place at the Museum of Islamic Art every three months, ‘Hekayat Khaleejiya’ will present films accompanied by a Q&A session with the filmmakers for a chance to gain insight in to their work and process. The new series launches with the highly acclaimed ‘Sea Shadow’ from the United Arab Emirates, a delightful coming-of-age story about two young people in a small Emirati coastal town. The Thursday January 17th screening will be followed by an extended Q&A session with director Nawaf Al-Janahi and screenwriter Mohammed Hassan Ahmed.

Set in a small seaside neighborhood in the United Arab Emirates, ‘Sea Shadow’ follows teenagers Mansour and Kaltham as they struggle with tradition in their journey towards adulthood. Bound by family conventions and deep-rooted values, the pair must find the courage to forge their own paths.
