Family Days Event - Friday
Event Description
Bring the whole family to enjoy films, activities and fun during four days of DTFF. All non-screening events at Family Days are free and offer activities for kids of all ages. Enjoy live entertainment, creative workshops and interactive experiences in locations throughout Katara Cultural Village. Each day will be filled with different experiences for families to go “on location” to discover filmmaking activities, workshops and more. On Friday, 23 November (2:00 PM–Midnight) Family Days will continue with exciting opportunities for families to play, learn and enjoy together. Kids will make their own film credentials and create a unique adventure which will guide them through all of the activities offered. Families can enjoy free movie screenings, arts and crafts, sports, workshops, filmmaking, storytelling, puppetry, music, dance, kite making, animation and more. Kids can also experience local Qatari customs, crafts and traditions, along with shows and performances from talented local youth of Doha. Friday, 23 November will conclude with a FREE special 30th Anniversary screening of E.T. at the Katara Beach Theatre at 9:00 PM. Film Credential Activities Lights, Camera, ACTION! Children will have the opportunity to create their own nametag and film “credential” and storyboard their adventure through all of the exciting activities offered at the Family Days events. Discovery Centre Come to the Discovery Centre and discover the inventor within you. Play with robots, build a rocket, meet the “Stars of Science” and design your own dhow boat and race car. Arts and Craft Zone Cut, color, and create! Develop your crafting talents with the International Academy for Intercultural Development, and join Mathaf for a special project inspired by great works of art. Puppet Place Enjoy playful puppet shows, and create your own puppet characters to make and take. DFI Studios Put yourself in the middle of the action at DFI Studios. Be a part of the studio audience at Northwestern University Qatar’s “Daily Q Live” on location at DFI Family Days. Watch as select audience members become a news anchor, a camera operator, a weather reporter and a “star” interview. While you’re there, don’t miss your opportunity to pitch your very own idea for a DTFF Festival film in a green-screen activity! Story Corner Come to the story corner to read, relax, and let your imagination take you to faraway places. Browse the large selection of Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation’s published books, be enchanted by local storytellers and participate in book related crafting and storytelling with Maktaba Children’s Library. Learn about MADA’s new and exciting technology to help connect the disabled with information and communication technology. Sony/51 East Experience Come and play with us! Try out the latest and greatest Sony PlayStation games at the Sony/51 East Experience. Kick, jump and dance the “virtual” way through Family Days with Sony PlayStation Move. And don’t forget to stop and pose for your close up at the Sony Hollywood “Hot Set” photo station. Kite Garden Build your own kite, and fly it high over Katara! Sports Zone Get active! Kick it, swing it and tee off in the Sports Zone. Enjoy volleyball, soccer, golf, and tennis on the beach. " "Qatari Village Enjoy a true Bedouin-style experience with falcons and Arabic hospitality. The Ministry of Social Affairs and their Productive Families Department will be teaching kids to weave wicker for baskets, make traditional dolls, weave sadows and much more! Shows and Stage Performances From talented school choirs to exciting Ardah dance groups, Doha’s youth will delight festivalgoers with performances throughout the event. Our stages will also showcase dynamic professional dancers, musicians, performers and other variety acts to captivate and entertain one and all. Al-Ajial Courtyard South Be creative, and have fun! Learn to make camel, caterpillar and butterfly puppets, monsters out of recyclable materials, and special character animations. Talented storytellers will entertain, and face painters, balloon artists, and other special performances will make appearances throughout the Family Days. Al-Ibda’a Courtyard North Feel like a celebrity in our Hollywood themed courtyard. Have your picture taken on the red carpet by the paparazzi, and make your own star and handprints on Hollywood Way. Create your own animation flip-book and enjoy other DTFF film related arts and crafts. Family Photography Workshops and Contest Doha Tribeca Film Festival Family Programmes and Qatar Photographic Society invites families to come together and learn how to take better pictures at a Family Photography Workshop at the Qatar Photographic Society in Katara, Cultural Village. After the workshop, participants will be invited to enter in the Sony Photo Contest where they will be challenged to capture the spirit of Family Day and the majestic sights of Katara using the skills they learned. Selected photos will be showcased on the Sony Digital Gallery throughout the weekend. The winning photos may be featured in promotional material for the 2013 Doha Tribeca Film Festival. There is also a special Sony give away for the most creative shot. It is free to participate and slots are given on a first come, first served basis. There will be two sessions: The first will be on Wednesday, November 21st 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM and the second on Thursday, November 22nd 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Both dance workshops will take place at the Sony Open Air Cinema and will be filled on a first come first served basis, so hurry and claim your spot!
