Synopsis
For those who experience fundamental social change as adults, the notions of what is right and wrong, what is normal and what is problematic are easily identified. For a young girl who went through the Chinese Cultural Revolution as a child, however, it was difficult to understand that the branding of her intellectual parents as anti-revolutionary – and therefore ‘bad’ – was an element of a forced shift of perception. In ‘Tough’, a daughter examines the fallout of her mother’s youth.
About the Directors
Jennifer Zheng was a confused Chinese kid who grew up in Northern Ireland. Now she is a BAFTA-nominated animator based in London.
