Marjoun and the Flying Headscarf
Fall Grant 2012
Synopsis
Marjoun is 17 years old and an outsider in her home of Little Rock, Arkansas. While her father Aabid awaits trial for alleged connections to Hezbollah, Sami moves in to help run the family convenience store. Marjoun takes action to get her father out of prison while Sami makes advances. She takes solace in listening to post-punk; writing poetry on her typewriter; and fancying Chaney, the blond boy in her math class. Eventually, she runs away, learns to ride a motorcycle, and takes off for the open road. Will she make it to Mexico or will she be pulled back into the messy reality of her life?
