Synopsis

Julia is a ranger in charge of protecting a natural reserve. She lives with her mother and daughter in a village dedicated to growing coffee. One day, during a routine walk across the forest, she discovers a group of illegal loggers falling trees. After realising her official protocol will get her nowhere, she decides to call a meeting with her neighbours to ask for their help. Despite the majority’s objections, she convinces a few men to join her. The improvised security counsel confronts the loggers, who by now have been joined by their families.

Julia learns they are following orders from an unnamed patrón, whose mere mention instils fear among everyone present. Undeterred, Julia insists that the loggers leave by the following day. Soon after, Julia receives a public threat that makes her an outcast in her village. She has no choice but to move to the city. Life goes on monotonously until her mother dies. On returning to bury her, Julia sees how much her village has changed. After receiving a final warning, she decides to walk one last time into the reserve.
