The 2012 edition of the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) will expand to eight days this year and include new screening venues to provide audiences with a fresh cultural experience.

Doha Film Institute (DFI) also welcomes His Excellency Mr Issa Bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi (Qatar Tourism Authority chair) as the Vice Chair of DTFF 2012.
The festival runs from 17 – 24 November. Indoor and outdoor screenings will take place at Katara Cultural Village and the Museum of Islamic Art.

“We plan to integrate new elements to this year’s festival, making our initiatives stronger to further our mandate of promoting local and Arab cinema and talents,” said Mr Al Mohannadi. With national industry sector experience Mr Al Mohannadi will focus on bringing Qatar’s communities and the region together. He will work with DFI to build a cultural showcase that increases community participation.

The festival will showcase approximately 50 films. Community events – including days for families to enjoy, panels, networking events and educational filmmaking programmes will also be included. Maggie Kim, Executive Director of Programming, said the festival will “continue to build on the success of previous editions, showcasing a diverse selection of films from around the world.”

The categories for competitions include Best Arab Film, Best Arab Filmmaker, Audience Awards for Best Narrative; Documentary and Arab Short Films.
