Synopsis

‘Kes’ (1969) was the second of social-realist drama master Ken Loach’s feature films and remains the most beloved and influential film of his career. The poignant coming-of-age portrait of 15-year-old Billy, a miner’s son, and the close bond he develops with a wild kestrel that allows him to escape the spiritual bonds of a dead-end life in bleak Northern England, uses non-professional actors and real locations, bringing the British angry young man film to a new level of authenticity. The British Film Institute named ‘Kes’ one of the top ten British films of the 20th century in 1999.

In partnership with the British Council and Qatar Museums Authority to celebrate Qatar UK 2013, Doha Film Institute presents the DFI UK Cinema Showcase - a series of monthly screenings throughout 2013 celebrating the power of classic and contemporary films from the British canon. Featuring unforgettable works from heavyweight directors and contemporary masters including David Lean, Ken Loach and Danny Boyle, the programme will present a stellar line up of films across multiple genres. Screenings take place on the last weekend of each month at the MIA Auditorium.
